A smitten fan gazes up at Josh Ritter as he performed at the Haunt Sunday, October 24 to a sold-out crowd. Audience members spent much of the set either singing or clapping along, alternating between devout attention and encouraging cheering. Photo by Heather Ainsworth
For an artist that looks so young, maybe 22, Ritter has a back-catalogue that most songwriters would kill for. Sunday night, he spent his ninety minute set with a fixed smile on his face, a joyfulness and graciousness that seemed altogether genuine. Photo by Heather Ainsworth
Longtime collaborators Austin Nevins, left, and Zack Hickman, right, joined Josh Ritter Sunday night. As opposed to his solo appearances, which are marked by storytelling and an almost tossed-off feel, Ritter’s set felt perfectly plotted, and he felt more the rock star than busking folk artist. Or at least a rock star that would be more comfortable drinking milk than beer, and whose songs, scrubbed clean, are devoid of swearing or anything misanthropic. Photo by Heather Ainsworth
